Rubescent Mirage

Immersed in hot cerise I have created an illusionary dance of colour, fruit and body.

My colour influence came directly from a series of paper cut, pop-up books I made after travelling. Shades of vivid cerise as my muse evoked tropical imagery, decorative elements, passion and heat. Inspired too, by the sculptural elements of the book, I was drawn to the pineapple and examined the richness of its form. The fruit became a decorative vehicle for the colour. I was excited by its skins lyrical lines, intrigued by their movement and dance. I began a journey playing with the shape and pattern, exploring cutting and mark making in a rhythmic way.

By marrying the fruit with the human figure a new hybrid was formed. The result captures a playful interplay between delight of texture and intensity of colour.
